Ghana Education Service (GES) has responded to Innovative Teachers Union with respect to the latter’s attempt to sue GES over the compulsory distribution of the TM1 Laptop to all teachers.
Innovative Teachers Union wrote a letter through their attorneys to GES on 29th June, 2021 to serve a notice to GES with the intention to sue the institution if they deduct money compulsory from teachers who do not want the substandard laptops.
In the letter, they stated that, “The decision by the GES to compulsorily sell laptops to teachers is contrary to law and therefore GES cannot compel teachers to acquire laptops through GES or the Ministry of Education.”
They concluded the letter stating emphatically that GES must refrain from compelling teachers who are not interested in this exercise to partake in it.
GES RESPONSE
The Ghana Education Service has responded to the letter from Innovative Teachers Union. GES stated that it was 3 teacher Unions (GNAT, NAGRAT and CCT) which negotiated the package for it’s members.
In the letter dated 12th July, 2021 from GES, they stated that, “The Ghana Education Service was only mandated by the Ministry of Education to ensure the successful implementation of the programme. “
GES proceeded to add that teachers who do not need the laptops can submit their names so that they removed from the scheme.
