Prempeh College have won the National Science and Mathematics Quiz (NSMQ 2021) after emerging victors in a very challenging and tight grande finale.
Road to 2021 NSMQ Finale
The 2021 NSMQ was officially launched on 19th October, 2021. This is when the balloting for the preliminary stage was drawn and the ball was set rolling for the Senior High Schools that qualified from the Regional Qualification stage to compete at the National level.
A total of 146 schools from across the 16 regions of Ghana participated in the 2021 National Science and Mathematics Quiz.
The Grande Finale of the NSMQ saw a contest between three Senior High Schools in Ghana. Keta Senior High/ Technical School, Prempeh College and Presby Boys Senior High School.
Keta SHTS marched to their ever finals of the contest after trampling Wesley Girls Senior High School and Tamale SHS with the schools emerging with 53 points, 35 points and 41 points respectively. This was the first time a Volta Regional School has made it to the finals on the NSMQ.
Keta SHTS came into the finals in a bid to win their first ever NSMQ after making history as the first Volta Regional School to be in the final.
Presbyterian Boys SHS had a walk in the park in their semifinal contest with St. Peters SHS and Chemu SHS. PRESEC grabbed 50 points while St. Peters SHS and Chemu Senior High School got 34 points and 21 points respectively.
Presec Legon came into the finals on the pedigree of being the only school to have won the competition back-to-back. They attained this in 2008 and 2009 respectively.
Prempeh College also won their semifinal contest in an all Ashanti Regional School contest with Opoku Ware SHS and KNUST SHS.
Prempeh College also came into the grand finale in an attempt to win their fifth trophy having won their fouth NSMQ competition in 2017.
NSMQ 2021 Champions
This win for PREMPEH COLLEGE takes their tally to five! That is, Prempeh College have now won the NSMQ for the fifth time with their previous four won in 1994, 1996, 2015 and 2017.
Presec Legon is the only school to have more NSMQ trophies (6) than Prempeh College.
