Portfolio Assessment for NQTs
Newly Qualified Teachers sat for NTC licensure exams which was the basic requirement for a trained teacher to be licensed in early October, 2020. NTC has a sole responsibility in conducting the procedures and to award qualified Teachers with the Professional Licence.
The trained teachers started their mandatory national service in January, 2021. The trained teachers have less than 3 months to complete the mandatory national service only to be told they had to submit a Portfolio Assessment to NTC.
This initiative by NTC was met with a lot of backlash from NQTs and TTAG as a whole. Their main concern was that they were not given enough notice to prepare for such Portfolio Assessment.
Suspension of Portfolio
TTAG released a press statement on 8th October, 2021 that is going to engage the NTC and GES in a discussion in other to suspend the Portfolio Assessment for the NQTs.
This have seen to have yielded a positive results for the Newly Qualified Teachers as NTC have decided to suspend the Portfolio Assessment.
However, NTC stated that those with provisional license shall be recommended for recruitment and subsequently undergo portfolio development and assessment upon their recruitment as teachers.
It must be emphasised that this suspension affects only 2020/2021 NQTs who are completing their national service in 2021.
