Background
The Ghana Education Service, following the completion of the Common Core Programme (CCP) for Pre-Tertiary Schools organised a 3-day workshop for Junior High School teachers to provide them with the necessary details to successfully implement the CCP.
GES tasked each District Educational Office to oversee the workshop and provide some incentives to the teachers that took part in the workshop.
The incentives came along with lunch, breakfast and transportation with both transportation and breakfast to be given in the form of cash.
Mr. Joseph Donkor, the Educational Director for Sekyere Kumawu District was said to have assured the teachers the said incentives at the end of the workshop.
According to an eye witness, he gave out the incentives to some few teachers and later stopped and instructed the rest to come to the office for theirs.
This decision in turn agitated teachers who decided to block the Director’s car from leaving the premises.
The Director forcibly wanted to leave the premises to avoid further confrontations with the teachers. However, his driver did not want to move the car because of the staff of teachers surrounding the car with fear of hitting them.
Mr. Donkor was seen in the video instructing his driver to step out of the car for him to drive. He then sped off from the premises without taking into consideration of hitting someone.
