The Aggrieved Public Sector Workers (APSW) has served notice to the Regional Police Commander of Ashanti Region and the public to inform of another impending industrial action in the Ashanti Region on 29th September, 2021.
The APSW had previously embarked on a peaceful protest in Accra on the 18th of August, 2021. The APSW convened at Obra Spot, Cirle in Accra. This attracted a lot of media attention from media houses such as TV3. Most workers held placards with strong messages which communicated what they needed from the government for them to be content. Some workers also shared their grievances when they were interviewed.

The Message from APSW
The message from the Lead Convenor, Mr. Norbert E. K. Gborgbortsi has been the same since day one; that “Public Sector Workers lives Matter.” This message emerged when the government announced 4% and 7% pay rise for public sector workers for 2021 and 2022 respectively. The APSW deem this as an insult since times are hard and prices of commodities have seen a sharp increase in recent times. The APSW cried that this percentage is insignificant to the cater for the increasing expenses in their day-to-day life.
They insist that they want the government and Trade Union Committee (TUC) to go back to the negotiation table and bring at least 25 percent (%) and 35 percent (%) increment for 2021 and 2022 respectively.
The Coveners remain adamant in their demands and plans to embark on yet another protest in the Ashanti Region.
Time and Route
The Peaceful Protest is set to take place on 29th September, 2021. Protesters are entreated to converge at Children’s Park (Amokom) between the hours of 04:00am and 07:00am. This will provide much time to start the protest walk at 08:00am.
The walk will commence from the converging point and end at the Regional Coordinating Council where a petition will be delivered to the Ashanti Regional Minister on behalf of the Government.
The APSW expect all Public Sector Workers to embark on this peaceful protest and expect at least 1,000 participants to show up to drive the message to the Government.
