His Excellency Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, during the Launch of the ‘One Teacher, One Laptop’ (1T1L), revealed that the Continuous Professional Development (CPD) Allowance will be duly paid this year (2021).

Payment of CPD Allowance
The CPD Allowance was first introduced in November 2020 by the government to help teachers engage in various developmental activities and help them build points towards promotions.
The Director-General of the GES, Prof. Kwasi Opoku-Amankwa, who disclosed this to journalists in Accra last year after the inauguration of the maiden Governing Council of the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC), explained that the payment was to help with teacher professionalisation.
In 2020, each professional teacher received a net GHc1200, while a non-professional teacher received a net GHc800. The CPDA was payable once a year but not a recurrent, adding that it would be paid in bulk and not in instalments.
CPD Allowance in 2021
Speaking at the launch of ‘One Teacher, One Laptop’ (1T1L) launch on 3rd September, 2021, His Excellency Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia mentioned that, Government, through Ministry of Education, National Teaching Council (NTC) other international cooperation’s have been working on a comprehensive National Teacher Policy to motivate teachers and address issues that affect teachers and their ultimate welfare.
“The Teacher Licensure Exam as a good initiative so as to ensure that the right standard is in place to safeguard and guarantee the quality of education. To further enhance the status of teaching, we have introduced the Professional Learning Communities (PLC) as well as the Continuous Professional Development System (CPDS) which provides opportunities for teachers to enhance their learning and teaching skills. To support this development, government has introduced the Continuous Professional Development Allowance and soon, this year’s allowance will also be paid.” His Excellency Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
