The ‘One Teacher, One Laptop’ (1T1L) initiative was launched on 3rd September, 2021. The initiative is directed at providing laptops to Teachers to aid in the efficient delivery of teaching and learning. The ceremony was graced by the presence of His Excellency Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Deputy Minister of Education, Rev. Ntim Fordjour, President of National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT) Mr. Angel Carbonu and other dignified guests.
Speaking at the event, The Managing Director of K.A Technologies, Madam Umolara Olatomi, appreciated the opportunity given to them to distribute the TM1 Laptops. She also added that the key to our future is and technology since it is an enabler and multiplier of opportunities. Hence, it is essential for teachers and learners to be familiar with technological trends. She reiterated that the Laptops are of high quality with lasting battery.

President of GNAT, Madam Philipa Larsen, stated that teachers wanted to move forward from the archaic ways of teaching. That is what prompted the Leadership of the Teacher Unions proposed the distribution of Laptop computers to teachers in the country. She thanked the Ministry of Education for Supporting the Ghana Education Service in assisting to provide and launch the ‘One Teacher, One Laptop’ (1T1L) initiative.
Minister of Education, Dr. Yaw Adutwum’s presence was felt when he added that technology is really essential to improving teaching and learning in the country. This was one of the main reasons the ‘One Teacher, One Laptop’ (1T1L) initiative was embraced by the Ministry.
His Excellency Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia officially inaugurated the ‘One Teacher, One Laptop’ (1T1L) initiative when he made his speech at the event. He reiterated that teachers are indispensable members of the society and as such commended all teachers for their hard work, sacrifice and dedication. He also added the COVID-19 pandemic made the government realize the need to blend the traditional physical contact with virtual platforms in the delivery of quality teaching and learning.
“Each teacher at every level in education, from Kindergarten to Senior High School will receive a laptop. This is novel in our educational service and delivery in the history of Ghana. Government pays seventy percent (70%) of the cost while the teacher pays the remaining thirty percent (30%) of the cost. The Laptop however becomes the personal property of the teacher and serves the benefitting tool for developing the professional and personal capacity.” His Excellency Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia said at the event.
He also charged the Ghana Education Service and the Ministry of Education to distribute the Laptops to teachers and teachers only as intended.
Before the curtains were drawn on the event, the Chairman of the ceremony hinted at the prospect of ‘One Child, One Laptop’ in the near future for school going children.
