The letter dated 26th October, 2021 which was signed by Prof. Kwasi Opoku Amankwa mentioned that this was necessary due to the arrangement between GESOPS and the Ministry of Education through the Ghana Education Service on the ‘One Teacher, One Laptop’ (1T1L) initiative.
The thirty percent cost (30%) of the laptop has been calculated to amount to Five hundred and Nine Ghana Cedis. (Ghc 509.00) and is expected to be deducted from the Teachers Continuous Professional Development (CPD) Allowance.
A purported quantity of Two Hundred and Eighty Thousand (280,000) pieces of laptop is supposed to be distributed to teachers with government bearing seventy percent (70%) of the cost.
The letter also stated that the escrow account has been created at the Cal Bank Limited Head Office.
The directive reiterated that the number of teachers exceed 280,00 and hence, GESOPS should note that the amount to be paid by CAGD will be in excess of the purported 280,000 pieces of laptops to be distributed.
GESOPS has been tasked to also open an interest yielding account to finance any additional Laptops which might be necessary to acquire in order to supply the Laptops to the teachers who will not be covered by the 280,000 pieces of laptops.
GESOPS as a separate institution with members from GES provided the funds to pre-finance the production and distribution of the 280,000 TM1 Laptop.
The Ghana Education Service Occupational Pension Scheme (GESOPS) is a Tier-2 pension scheme registered and regulated by the National Pensions Regulatory Authority. The Scheme’s membership is drawn from employees of the Ghana Education Service.
