NAGRAT Presser on Lesson Notes Preparation
NAGRAT issued a press statement on 17th February, 2022 raising various concerns relating to the staff of Ghana Education Service. One of the concerns was the Mode of lesson notes preparation.
NAGRAT explained that writing of lesson notes was counter productive and time wasting.
It stressed on the fact that the mode of lesson note preparation whether written or typed adds no value to the teaching and learning in the classroom.
NAGRAT also expressed their worries as to why teachers prepare their lesson notes with pen and paper in this technological world where digital literacy is a must for every teacher.
NAGRAT insisted that institutions and Supervisors can provide their links to the Teachers to transfer their lesson notes information for supervision electronically.
GES Statement on the Above Concerns
The Ghana Education Service acknowledged the concerns raised by the Union and has provided a leeway for an agreement to be made.
The Head of Public Relations Unit for GES was aware that such issues were going to come up especially in the midst of the ‘One Teacher, One Laptop’ programme.
The Management of GES and the Unions came to a consensus that for now, the system for preparation of lesson Notes should be made flexible as possible.
Hence, the decision on the mode of preparation of lesson Notes should be an agreement between the teachers and their immediate supervisor.
Thus, where both teacher and the supervisor agree that it should be prepared and submitted electronically, it should be allowed.
Hence GES mentioned that this should not be a cause of any apprehension between staff members and their immediate supervisors.
GES reiterated that the feasibility of phasing out the manual preparation of lesson notes will be discussed at the appropriate time when every teacher has received their personal TM1 Laptop.
