The Ghana Education Service (GES) has announced study leave with pay for the 2023/2024 academic year for eligible employees to apply.
However, employees of the service must meet the requirements listed below in order to be eligible for the award of study leave with pay under the terms of the GES Study Leave with Pay policy.
The Requirements for Study Leave with Pay
Here is how to qualify for the 2023 Study Leave with Pay;
- Three (3) years of satisfactory employment is the bare minimum required to be eligible for the grant of Study Leave with Pay. A Study Leave with Pay beneficiary must post a bond for the number of years they worked at the institution plus one (1) year.
- A candidate (GES staff member) may be eligible to be granted a paid study leave if they have worked for two (2) years in a designated underprivileged region.
- Before being admitted to any Post Graduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) degree, non-professional graduate instructors must have worked for at least one (1) year.
- Before they are qualified for Study Leave with Pay, Service employees returning from secondment must work for the organisation for a minimum of two (2) years.
- Before being eligible for Study Leave with Pay, Service employees who resign, leave the service, and are reappointed or reengaged must work for at least five (5) years.
- A staff member who is not granted Study Leave with Pay in the first year of his or her studies is not permitted to reapply in the second year. To enroll in the course, the staff must request a study leave without pay.
- A staff member must have a minimum of two (2) years left to service after the course to be eligible for study leave with pay. For instance, a staff member who is fifty-five (55) years of age or older cannot request a study leave with pay to complete a four-year or longer course. However, he or she may apply to pursue courses with a period of one to three years
- A Staff member may take paid study leave under the following conditions:
- Good performance and behaviour
- Supervisor’s recommendation

Study Leave with Pay Application Process
Applicants are required to obtain the STUDY LEAVE FORM from the Metro/Municipal/District Education Office. You can also download it by clicking on the link above.
Applicants should complete application forms (4 copies), attach certified true copies of certificate(s) and should be submitted to the applicant’s Regional Director through the Metro/Municipal/District Director or Head of Institution for second cycle institutions.
