The Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) is a statutory public Trust charged under the National Pensions Act, 2008 Act 766 with the administration of Ghana’s Basic National Social Security Scheme. Its mandate is to cater for the First Tier of the Three-Tier Pension Scheme. The Trust is currently the largest non-bank financial institution in Ghana.
The primary responsibility of the Trust is to replace part of lost income of workers in Ghana due to Old Age, Invalidity or Death of a member where dependants receive lump sum payment. It is also responsible for the payment of Emigration benefit to a non-Ghanaian member who is leaving Ghana permanently.
The Pension Scheme as administered by SSNIT has an active membership of over 1.6 million as at January, 2021 with over 226,000 pensioners who regularly receive their monthly pensions from SSNIT.
Most workers in Ghana pay attention to their SSNIT Contributions only when they have 2 to 3 years to retire. That shouldn’t be the case. SSNIT has made it easy to access your contributions statements at anytime you want and solve any abnormalities quickly before it’s too late.
SSNIT contributors need to check their SNNIT statements at least every 6 months to avoid and correct any issues that may rise up.
Here are the simple steps to access your SSNIT account and check your contributions:
• Visit www.ssnit.org.gh website.
• Click on “menu” at the top right corner of the website.
• Select “SELF SERVICE” among the options.
• If you already have an account, just type your SNNIT NUMBER and PASSWORD to sign in.
• If you don’t have an account, click on “Get access” to sign up
• To sign up, you need your SNNIT NUMBER, EMAIL (the email you used to register for SSNIT during the biometric registration) and put in a security answer for the question you’ll be provided.
• Click on “Sign Up” and you’ll receive a password in the email account.
• You can now Log in with that password and check all your contributions statements.
NOTE: If you receive any error concerning your email address, visit the nearest SNNIT office. You can also contact SSNIT on 0302611622 or email them at contactcentre@ssnit.org.gh for further assistance.
