Recent domain rankings by cloudflare on their blog revealed that the viral video sharing platform, TikTok, has overthrown Google to the number one spot as the most visited platform in 2021.
Numerous websites’ internet traffic was monitored throughout the year in 2021.
The Recent domain rankings focus on various internet platforms which included e-commerce sites such as Amazon and Taobao rule, social media platforms such as TikTok and Facebook as well as video streaming platforms such as Netflix.
Chat domains which includes WhatApp and Telegram also featured in the traffic monitoring as part of the rankings.

2020 Top Websites in Review with
The 2021 ‘Most Visited’ Domain Rankings brought about an interesting duel for the top spot in the global ranking. Googl.com (which includes their Maps, Email, Photos and other sub-domains) finished 2020 with the number 1 spot.
Google took the number spot of 2020 in September and ended the year with the top spot. However, TikTok only managed the 7th spot in 2020.
Facebook, Microsoft and Apple attained the 2nd ,3rd and 4th spot respectively in 2020 while Twitter.com took the 10th Spot
Tiktok tops 2021 Websites Rankings
However, there has been a massive increase in the internet traffic of TikTok that has seen the video sharing platform rise to the number spot in 2021
The 2021 most popular domains according to cloudflare were ranked as follows;

- Amazon.com

- Twitter.com
- WhatsApp.com
The month f October and November made the breakthtough for TikTok to be able to manage this top spot. Cloudflare explained that the Thanksgiving and Black Friday in November was the moment that sealed it for TikTok.
TikTok attaining the number one spot also means that it has surpassed Facebook as the most popular social media website-domain in the rankings although Facebook has more users worldwide.
This indicates that the year 2022 saw more internet traffic from TikTok.com according to Cloudflare’s data.
